 Prison Ministry
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Mark 16:15

The Leon Valley Baptist Church Prison Ministry was formed in 2002; the Lord Jesus Christ first placed a burden for the prison ministry on Bro. Mike Thompson's heart who made an impassioned appeal for laborers in a harvest field that was white unto harvest.  For the past few years, God has truly blessed this vital church ministry beyond anything that we could have imagined.  The LVBC Theme Verse is taken from Jeremiah 33:3.  Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.  All praise and glory to our God, great things He hath done!

Program Overviews

Torres Unit Mentor Program
Christian men and couples are needed at the Torres Unit to mentor young men that are soon to be released from prison.  These young men desperately need a solid foundation to stand on.  That foundation is Jesus Christ.  But too often, there is nobody to tell them.  That's where people that love Jesus Christ come in.  These men need to see that Jesus loves them too--they have to see that there is another way--they must know that they are loved by God.  Each man or couple that enter the Torres Mentor Program are required to make a commitment to the person they are going to mentor for a period of at least one year.  Mentors go into the prison unit every 2nd and 4th Tuesday beginning at 6:30 PM.  Mentor sessions last for about 2 hours and are one-on-one with the prisoner and may take the form of a Bible Study, counseling, and prayer time--and it is usually a combination of all three.  If you really want to see what God can do in a man's life, trust God and step out in faith.  You may contact Mike Thompson or send him an email at
michael1130@msn.com.

Weekly Dorm Pastor Ministry
A team of men from two different churches gather at the Dominguez State Jail each Thursday evening at about 6:00 PM.  These men actually go inside the prison and minister one-on-one with the men of F Dorm (some 200-250 prison inmates).  F Building has four pods (dormitories) with open bay sleeping and living quarters.  One of the team will usually conduct a short Bible study while the others evangelize, counsel, and pray with the inmates who do not attend the Bible study.  Each one of the Dorms are visited for about 30 minutes and the Dorm Pastor Team moves to the next Dorm.

Family Reception Center
The 2nd Saturday of each month volunteers from LVBC minister outside in the Reception Area to the family and relatives waiting to go inside to visit their loved one who is incarcerated.  Free beverages and snacks are provided as well as being told about the FREE gift of life offered by the Lord Jesus Christ.
